4 out of 5 Very nice but a little small

I really like Tommaso Rumici as a designer and have many knives he’s designed. To that end, I also liked the Nyala pen and went for the gold colour and layers steel barrel. Collector Knives offers it for a better price than anyone else and I was happy to purchase again from them.

First thing I noticed when I received the pen was that is was smaller than I anticipated. I saw the numbers but didn’t register in my brain that it may be too small. Thankfully, it’s right on the edge, about the same length as a Hinderer Investigator pen. The height of the clip, however is lower than any other pen I use. A fifth star on this pen would mean it had an extra half an inch so I’d encourage LionSteel to release a “Versione Due” with that change.

Overall, the pen functions well. The clip is solid, not hollow so it’s strong. It’s also removable which makes me feel better knowing that I could replace it in the rare chance I had to. The twist action is smooth but a little too soft for my taste. It feels like a plastic action in the top and I think I would have preferred a metal one for a more confident feel.

Still, I spent a lot of money on a pen and got a pretty special pen in return. The barrel is beautiful and helps with grip. The Fisher cartridge is fantastic. The length, although a little short, means the pen can fit into pockets easier. I’m glad I have it. If version two comes out with metal action and longer barrel, I think I’d be in line. Thanks Tommaso, LionSteel, and Collector Knives.
