Factory description:Â With Storm, Viper introduces his collaboration with the Rick Hinderer a famous American cutler.
The thickness of titanium Liner along with the G10 and Carbon Fiber handle scales make this knife a hybrid locker: rigid and strong as a frame-lock, but well-finished and comfortable as a liner-lock.
Another Storm feature is the H.M.B.S. (Hinderer Modular Backspacer System), which allows the user to place the preferred backspacer, among other options available.

This knife is solid enough that it can handle about any edc task and maybe more. Unlike most Hinderer knives, the pivot is on bearings, but that does allow the flipper to open the blade a bit easier. Typical of the Viper flippers I’ve had, this one has a rather weak detent – in this case probably to make the thumb studs easier to use. The blade came sharp, the edge grind is even and there is no lock stick on mine. At 4.3 oz. without the HMBS it’s just the right size and weight for medium hands. About the only thing I would wish for is a bit thinner blade stock. All in all, a very good collaboration.

This knife is a collaboration between Rick Hinderer’s design and Viper Knives production in Maniago, Italy.
Size: It’s on the small end of the spectrum for a large knife, or largen end for medium knives. I wear XL gloves, my little finger is still on the scales when opened.
Quality: 3.125″ Bohler M390 steel blade that is 0.16″ thick. The blade moves on bearings, not washers. Titanium frame, the knife is a liner lock. The liner lock is so heavy duty it resembles the liner lock on the Hinderer Maximus, which makes it a hybrid of sorts. The handles are 4.625″ with G-10 scales, Carbon Fiber is available. Hinderer Modular Backspacer System installed. It weighs about 4 ounces.
My Hinderer XM-18 has blade studs that lock up against the scales/liner when open to add blade stability and strength. The Storm has Thumb studs, you can use for opening the blade.
Clip: Looks like my Hinderer knife clips, mounted for tip up carry only, you can move it on the Storm to the other side if you’re left handed.
I like everything about this knife. It’s a very handy size and a heavy duty build. When you consider the cost, the design, the quality craftsmanship and materials; it is truly a great value as well.
