5 out of 5 Initial impressions

    (verified owner)

I have only had the knife M5 Santos wood for a week, so these are initial impressions. This is my first Lionsteel knife. The M5 is a wonderfully crafted knife. My handle was noticeably lighter than the handle picture on Lionsteel’s website. The sheath is probably the best standard sheath for a knife…ever! The M5 has wonderful balance in the hand. The M5’s handle is beefy yet fits the hand wonderfully. You get a sense of “power” when holding the knife. The handle can be used in many different grips with equal ease and effectiveness. The blade came sharp, but not scary sharp. I have not had the chance to get a real assessment of the blade under hard use. I will update as I use the knife more. So far, so great!

I am very impressed with Collector Knives’ service. I appreciate the included inspirational booklet they included with my order. I will probably buy the majority of my future knives from them.

5 out of 5 Lion Steel M5 - Heavy Duty Hunting / Survival Knife

    (verified owner)

I was looking for a wood handled knife that was similar to the TOPS BOB. When hunting I like to carry a larger heavy duty knife in addition to a medium hunting/skinning knife. The TOPS BOB is my go to knife for this but it is not offered with a wood handle. This knife is very similar to the BOB. The blade is about 1/16″ shorter and the handle is about 1/4″ shorter, but it is very close. Also, the blade is marginally thinner, but still substantial enough for heavy duty use. The handle fills the hand and is plenty long enough for a comfortable grip. The integral finger guard is nicely shaped and offers plenty of protection to keep your fingers off the edge. The handle I received is darker than the photo with ebony and medium brown grain stripes running lengthwise. The blade is flat for the top 3/8″ and then flat ground. The edge bevel is symmetrical at about 1/16″. The blade height is 1-5/16″. The length dimensions shown in the description are accurate for the knife I received. This knife is not quite as heavy as the TOPS BOB which makes it easier to carry but not quite as good a chopper. The sheath that comes with the knife is well made and very serviceable. I am not a big fan of snap straps on sheaths so I ordered a TKC pouch style sheath sized for the ESEE5 which fits well. I tried this knife in the large CK dangler sheath and in a TOPS BOB sheath but the integral guard is just a bit too wide for these sheaths. Please note that my comparison of this knife to the TOPS BOB is not meant to detract but to describe how favorable this knife compares. This is my first Lion Steel knife and I am very impressed with the high quality materials and build. If you are looking for a heavy duty hunting/survival knife with a wood handle I highly recommend the M5.
