5 out of 5 Minor flaws but Nice!

I rated this a 5 * because it’s a beautiful knife and for the price I think it’s worth the rating. I do have a few minor flaws in mine. The machining of the Ebony scales isn’t perfect. Catching it in the light you can see tear-out in the wood. You can also feel it with your fingernails. I’m a woodworker so I notice these things. A few more minutes of sanding would have produced a flawless surface. And the second thing is the scales sit a bit proud of the bolsters. The same bit of sanding would have fixed this too. Overall, for the price, this is a great knife and I don’t hesitate recommending it to anyone. And, I love the leather sheath I bought with it. I wish it was about ¼” shorter because it’s the exact length of the knife so it’s hard to get it in and out. But, for the price its’ very nice. I’ll be buying a handful for other knives.

Very nice all around. I highly recommend it. I, too am a woodworker but I guess I was luckier as there are no tear outs on mine. I have three of these LionSteel semi-traditional folders (two Jacks and this Roundhead). I think the scales sitting proud, as they do on mine as well, was an intentional production decision because ,even though mine are proud, all three are uniformly so. One of my Jacks has areas of rising grain producing a matte surface on areas of the scales.I wish those areas had a smoother surface but, as I’m not familiar with the growth habits of olive wood other than it being gnarly I’m not sure how much effort would have been needed to compensate. I’ve stained mine (black walnut husks and European buckthorn inner bark applied separately) and that probably visibly accentuates changes in grain direction. I’ve thought about removing the scales (T6 Torx) and refinishing them but am not sure I have the ambition! In summary, my concerns are trivial and I’m very glad I purchased these well-made knives.

5 out of 5 MY FAVORITE MODERN TRADITIONAL KNIFE

    (verified owner)

Absolutely PERFECT!! The design is sleek & execution is flawless. Fit & finish is wonderful. The walk & talk is exactly what I want from a slipjoint. Good solid pull & a firm snap close. Overall, I am so happy with it. There is NOT one aspect that I would improve on. Really impressive job.

5 out of 5 Timeless pattern refined

The Barlow design is a particular favorite of mine and I’ve been carrying one or another in my pocket for as long as I can remember. The first knife my father gave me as a young boy was a Barlow and it went everywhere with me. The LionSteel Roundhead Spear Jack, however, has raised the bar with respect to the aesthetics and quality of components. It combines high-end blade steel with beautifully melted edges on the titanium components, all executed with clean lines and outstanding fit and finish to provide a simple but elegant rendition of this classic pattern.

Love this knife! Have a Shuffler too but I think I like the roundhead more.
    Perfect size/weight for the pocket.
